Energy Management System

ISO 50001:2011

Energy ManagementSystem

The purpose of this standard is to enable organizations to establish the systems and processes necessary to improve energy performance, including energy efficiency, use and usage. Through systematic energy management, greenhouse gas emissions, energy costs and other related environmental impacts can be reduced. This standard can be applied to organizations of all types and sizes regardless of regional, cultural or social conditions. For successful execution, all departments and functions of the customer organization, especially the will of top management, are important.

Based on these requirements, the organization can develop and implement an energy policy, and can establish goals, targets and action plans that take into account legal requirements and information related to the use of critical energy. Energy Management Systems (EnMS) enable organizations to achieve the organization’s policy commitment, perform activities necessary to improve energy performance, and demonstrate conformance of the system to the requirements of this standard.
This standard applies to activities under the control of an organization, and its application can be tailored to the specific needs of the organization, including system complexity, degree of documentation and resources.

The importance of ISO 50001

By earning ISO 50001 certification, organizations can benefit from:

  • Organizations improve energy efficiency, energy use and consumption
  • More transparent and effective communication in the management of energy resources
  • Promote the spread of best practices in energy management
  • Assist in evaluation and prioritization of applying new energy efficiency technologies to facilities
  • Providing frameworks to increase the energy efficiency of supply chains
  • Improve energy management for greenhouse gas emission reduction projects

The international use of this standard contributes to more efficient use of available energy sources, increased competitiveness, reduced greenhouse gas emissions and other environmental impacts. This standard has the advantage that it can be applied regardless of the type of energy used.
This not only contributes to the interests of the organization through the efficient use of energy, but also has a positive impact on the environmental issues that are emerging as a global topic.
